In the heart of the medina just a short stroll from the famous square, Le Salama occupies a period colonial building that’s quickly become one of the hottest restaurants in the area for fashionable residents. A library-inspired  two-story dining room is alit in candlelight with dramatic ambiance that feels like it marched right out of the 1940s. Dark ebonized floors contrast mirrored walls and Moroccan lanterns that illuminate a wrap-around banquette and center room dining area interrupted by the occasional belly dance show. An additional lounge area opens to a large, dining terrace with ornamental woodwork and views of the Atlas Mountains that’s a delicious respite from the chaotic night market on a Marrakech weekend.

The Food

Given the unpredictable cuisine one often faces in the inner medina, Le Salama is a standout for traditional Moorocan faire offering a menu of prix-fixe and ala carte options that begins with a trove of Morocan salads ranging from hummus and eggplant to baba ganoush and tzatziki. Main course includes a bevy of terrines from chicken to seafood with grilled meats and backed fish options that are served till almost midnight on most nights.

Last Word

Marrakech dining room, lounge and terrace offers fashionable respite from the action of the medina and market.
